Allium istanbulense, a new autumnal species of A. sect. Codonoprasum (Amaryllidaceae) from Turkey and its taxonomic position among allied species
2018
Allium istanbulense, a new species of Allium sect. Codonoprasum, is described and illustrated from Istanbul surroundings (European Turkey). It is a late-flowering diploid species (2n = 16), occurring in the undergrowth of oak or pine woods mainly on sandy or incoherent soils. Its morphology, karyology, leaf anatomy, seed micromorphology, ecology, conservation status and taxonomic relationships are examined. A taxonomic comparison with the most allied late flowering species of sect. Codonoprasum and identification keys of the group are also provided.
Prevalence of dyslipidemia and associated risk factors in Turkish adults.
2013
Background and Objectives Dyslipidemia is a modifiable major risk factor for coronary heart disease. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of dyslipidemia among Turkish adults and its associations with other cardiovascular risk factors. Methods This study included 4309 people ages 20 to 83 years old from 7 provinces of Turkey. People from the city centers, districts, and villages were selected by a stratified sampling method. Weight, height, and waist and hip circumferences were measured. Blood samples were obtained to determine glucose, total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides …
Zirconium and hafnium fractionation and distribution of Rare Earth Elements in neutral–alkaline waters: Case study of Lake Van hydrothermal system, T…
2021
International audience; We investigated the distribution of Zr, Hf, and rare earth elements (REE) as the sum of lanthanides plus Y in the hydrothermal system in the Lake Van area of south-eastern Turkey. This system is characterised by water with variable pH in alkaline conditions resulting from hydrothermal CO2 upraise and neoformation of calcite minerals in near equilibrium with the interacting waters. Zr, Hf, and REE determinations were carried out for aqueous phases and suspended solids in lake water and surrounding thermal springs. We found that dissolved Hf is partitioned relative to Zr during calcite formation and that such fractionation is a function of the Ca2+ activity in warm wat…
From viral pathobiology to the treatment of hepatitis B virus infection EASL Monothematic Conference (Istanbul, Turkey, October 6-8, 2005).
2006
Hepatitis B virus infection, which was for over a decade put aside by the rising star of hepatitis C, has seen over the last years a resurgence of interest. This stemmed from a better knowledge of the virus itself, from the availability of new drugs and combinations, and from the realization that far from being eradicated by mass immunization programs HBV is still on a worldwide basis the major cause of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, alone or in combinations with other viruses, alcohol andmetabolic cofactors. This prompted the EASL Scientific Committee to organize a Monothematic Conference on HBV. Experts from Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, the Far East and other parts of the worl…
Surface expression of eastern Mediterranean slab dynamics: Neogene topographic and structural evolution of the southwest margin of the Central Anatol…
2012
The southwest margin of the Central Anatolian Plateau has experienced multiple phases of topographic growth, including the formation of localized highs prior to the Late Miocene that were later affected by wholesale uplift of the plateau margin. Our new biostratigraphic data limit the age of uplifted marine sediments at the southwest plateau margin at 1.5 km elevation to <7.17 Ma, and regional lithostratigraphic correlations imply that the age is <6.7 Ma. Single-grain CA-TIMS U-Pb zircon analyses from a reworked ash within the marine sediments yield dates as young as 10.6 Ma, indicating a maximum age that is consistent with the biostratigraphy. Our structural measurements within the uplifte…
A PHYLOGENY OF THE GENUS NYCTEREUTES TEMMINCK, 1838 (MAMMALIA: CARNIVORA: CANIDAE), INCLUDING A NEW SPECIES FROM ÇALTA (TURKEY)
2019
The phylogenetic relationships of the raccoon-dog, Nyctereutes procyonoides, were matter of debate in the last decades. Morphological phylogenies recognized some affinities between Nyctereutes and some South American canids, e.g. Cerdocyon, whereas more recent molecular studies support the inclusion of the raccoon-dog in the tribe Vulpini together with the genera Vulpes and Otocyon. The present study reports the first most-parsimonious analysis on extant and fossil species of Nyctereutes using a dataset of 115 ad hoc selected cranial, dentognatic, cerebral and postcranial characters, analyzed through the freeware software TNT v. 1.5. The resulting strict consensus tree (tested with bootstra…

Kunnon muslimi ja kunnon kansalainen : turkkilaisten imaamisaarnaajalukioiden oppikirjojen ilmentämän maailmankatsomuksen analyysi
2017
This qualitative study aims to analyse the worldview that emerges in the textbooks of Turkish imam and preacher high schools (úmam hatip lisesi). The study material consists of eight textbooks that belong to the vocational religious education of Turkish imams. All of the textbooks were published around 2010. In this study, theoretical considerations regarding the essence of worldview (Weltanschauung) are summarized into an existential model of worldview (EKMA). The model provides two viewpoints from which to understand the worldview under study. The first viewpoint concentrates on understanding the worldview’s belief structure and the content of those beliefs. The second viewpoint examines …
